“Margaret is a visionary. She sees the possibilities, not the impossibilities, and stands firm in her belief that all things are possible when there is a will for change.”
Margaret Miller has lived in Hants East for nearly her whole life. As a teenager Margaret and her father, Hilbert Knol, a Dutch immigrant, started Green Acres Campgrounds. In 1974, she and her husband, Robert bought a dairy farm just outside of Shubenacadie and together raised their three children, Monica, Jeanette and Bruce. During that time, Margaret also started Country Ceramics and became a provincial distributor of ceramic supplies. In 1999, the couple sold their farm but decided to stay in the community where they had made their home.
In 2001, Margaret and Robert started a logging business. When their son Bruce, a Springhill Police officer, was killed in 2004 by an impaired driver, life was forever changed. Margaret became a victim advocate, a lobbyist and the National President of MADD Canada. Life became about righting the wrongs and developing better legislation to protect families and prevent death and injury on our highways. Margaret has worked with nearly every level of government in the country and is well known on Parliament Hill. In 2012 she was awarded the Queens Jubilee Medal for her efforts. - See more here>> |
