Clay Pit and Trees

Tue May 10, 3:49 PM

Some residents have been voicing their disappointment with the cutting down of trees by the tracks near the clay pit.  These trees were planted years ago as part of the community’s beautification program and were funded by residents.  It is always sad to see a healthy tree removed.  It is especially sad when these trees represent thoughtful participation in the improvement of our natural environment.

I did speak with a Shaw representative. I have been assured that the tree removal was a prerequisite of CN as a safety measure requiring 1000 lineal feet of unobstructed vision from the crossing in the interest of safety.

I know we appreciate the hazards associated with crossing railroad tracks.  While Shaw did not instruct CN to take this action, they support those “best practice” safety measures required that will mitigate risk to people, equipment and community.

Shaw has always been considerate of the community and they have been generous in the past (pea gravel on our playground, for example).  They certainly would not want there to be any misunderstandings.
