Hay Days

Shubenacadie Hays Days

This event happens through the dedication and commitment of your Hay Days Committee, and all those volunteers who help out.  It’s important to recognize the people who worked hard to make this event a success for everyone.  I know this list will not include everyone, and I apologize for that.  There are so many people who help in so many ways, often behind the scenes.  Thank you.

Specifically, I would like to mention Chief John Malloy, and the members of the Shubenacadie Fire and Emergency Service, Bernadette Matthews, Marilyn Doucette, Christine Barr, Amanda Giles-Malloy, Ged Stonehouse, Neil Barr, Corrine Giles, Teena Van de riet, the RCMP, all parade and grounds participants.  You are appreciated more than you know.

A big thank you goes out to the hardworking volunteers who spent many hours cleaning and painting to prepare the grounds for July 1st.  And there is a separate group of car enthusiasts who looks after the car show; the Legion puts on a great breakfast; the UnitedChurch has a BBQ and strawberry shortcake; the rug hookers do a display and the museum is all spit and polish.  This is the second year we have had our July 1st supper at our community hall.  It is, once again, an annual event, and a great treat as part of the festivities.  There were new events and old favourties.  And everyone knows our fire department does the best fireworks presentation.  We are lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers committed to our community.

This year’s parade theme was heroes.  Heroes who keep us safe, whether at home or across the world.  Heroes who put out fires, rescue people, fight wars, respond to accidents, and keep the peace.  As we enjoy our freedom and festivities, we need to keep in mind how it is made possible for us by heroes who put a safe society first.
