Municipal Building etc.

The addition to the Lloyd Matheson (formerly EH Resource Centre) building in Elmsdale will be complete and all municipal staff will be there by the end of 2012. In the meantime, you will see for sale signs go up on the current municipal building and the annex, across the road, in the next week or so.
The Shubenacadie sidewalk construction will begin this summer. The municipal engineers have been working diligently to come up with ways to save the trees for our village. Their efforts could result in saving most of the trees. Of course, provincial approvals from Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (formerly DOT) and Environment are pending.
The dock in Shubie was once again the starting place for the Canoe to the Sea race and saw 110 boats hit the water! Canoe to the Sea is already advertising this dock as the starting place for next year’s event. Check out their website!
There are many activities and festivals around East Hants this summer. It’s a great opportunity to explore parts of the municipality you may not have seen. We have so much beautiful geography here and so many dedicated volunteers planning these events.
The Treasurer’s Report and financial statements have been posted to the municipal website. It’s worth seeing where your money is going!
Council is off for the month of August. Last November when the calendar was set, council decided not to have any meetings in October, being election month. However, in June, they voted to have October meetings. Well, I will miss these, as Kevin and I have planned a vacation, based on the set calendar. The October executive committee meeting and council meeting will be the only two I have missed in four years, and that’s not how I had planned to end my years of representing you. However, we have our tickets and this is not something we can change.
It has been an honour and pleasure to have represented district 4 for the past four years, and I am available should you have any questions or issues until October 15!
Remember to vote.
