Shubenacadie Waterfront Park

Fri May 07, 7:19 PM

The first use of our new dock on the river will happen May 15th with the Canoe to the Sea race finishing on the community grounds.  Plans are still in the works and information will be posted here.

I would like to have a new name for this multi purpose community property.  We have always called it the Shubenacadie Community Hall and Grounds.  While this is accurate, I think the building name should remain, but the grounds themselves could use a new name.  Do you agree?  Shubenacadie residents will be asked for an opinion before any change is made.  What do you suggest?

Museum

The Tin Smith Museum and adjacent craft shop will open their doors this month.  Watch for posters in the village.  This museum is a wonderful representation of early life in our village.  The craft shop is stocked full of beautiful work by local artists.  Worthy of many visits this summer.

Hay Days July 1st

The Canada Day celebration has been in the planning stages since February and your Hay Days Committee welcomes any input and time you may wish to share.  This is one event which brings everyone together in celebration of our country and our community.  Volunteering to help make this event a continuing success would be welcome.

Farmer’s Market

The Enfield Farmers Market will begin June 5th this year.  Once again, they are hosting a “Local Flavours Dinner”  May 8th.  Call 883-7402 for tickets.  Please support your local producers and consider attending this meal of food produced by your neighbours.

Saltscapes Expo

The Saltscapes Expo at Exhibition is the first weekend of May.  This is a wonderful showcase for local businesses and tourism operators.  A worthwhile way to spend some time.

Work Around Town

Since everyone has been stuck in traffic in the village, I know you are aware that we are experiencing major upgrades to our infrastructure, which will result in better water, better sewer, better drainage and new pavement.  Patience is easier to muster knowing the end results are something we all need.

Just a Thought

Remember, stepping outside your comfort zone, whether to volunteer your time and meet new people or begin a new hobby or sport, is the way we have learned everything we know.  We all start at the beginning, with that first step.
