HAY DAYS / CANADA DAY GREAT FUN
Sat Jul 27, 11:23 AM
Even though the 2013 Hay Days and Canada Day events were spread over two weekends and dampened a little by the weather a GREAT time was had by all.
Canoe to the Sea
Went as scheduled on Canada Day and a very good turn out despite poor weather forecasts. Paddlers left the Shubie Dock paddling with the Tide all the way down to Maitland. Allan Billard and his team did a great job to make this a special event. We are so fortunate to have the mighty Shubenacadie River run right through the Village
Delayed one Week to July 7
Majority of events were delayed to Sunday July 7 and there was still very good trunout to all of the activities. Breakfast at the Legion was well attended and they had an Auction going on as well with many special items up for grabs.
Classic Car Show - the car show was fun with a variety of vintage models coming from all across the Maritimes. The organizing team did a great job to pull this off after having to cancel July 1st. Big crowds wandered through the ground enjoyed the BBQ and the United CHurces Strawberry Shortcake.
Tin Shop Museum - had a full dave of activities like usual and people wondered in and out all day
Hay Days Parade - with honourary Parade Marshal - Dr. Ross MacInnis - made its way through the Village to the delight of families lining the streets. There was a confilct with the change of dates wiht the Elmsdale Parade but Shubie still had a great showing.
Activities in the Park - the bouncy toys - food booths - face painting - wading pool - play ground - K9 Flyers were fun
10 - 2 Midnight - Live and in Concert in the park - the park and surounding areas filled up to the GREAT music of this live band - they played a great variety of music that was enjoyed by all - they were so good we have already booked them for next year
Shubie Fireworks - Our Shubie volunteer fire brigade do an AMAZING job on putting together one of the best fire works displys in the region. Even with the rescheduling an estimated 2,500 people came - lined the streets and roads all around to enjoy this display
Well even with the challenges of the weather Chairperson Christine Barr - her committee and the litterally 100+ volunteers that helped in one way or another to put on a great event - to you we say THANK YOU - it was soooo much fun.
Thank You for your Support
Heritage Canada as well as our own local Business Community and also families in the community provided their financial support to allow the event to happen. THANK YOU to each of you as well....
If you would like to be part of the planning or volunteering for next year send us a note at info@shubie.ca - we would love to have your comments - suggestions and ideas....
