HAPPY CANADA DAY & HAY DAYS - its here

 Friday July 1st - Shubenacadie Hay Days / Canada Day Celebrations

We are excitedly working to get the final touches on everything for Canada Day.  There is sooooooo much going on you won't want to miss any of it.

it will be a full day...  Bring a lawn chair - lots of water - sunscreen - and the whole family...

8:00am - 10:30am - Breakfast at the Shubenacadie Legion

10:00am - 5:00pm - Tin Shop and Craft Store welcoming tours

10:00am - 4:00pm In the Park

      Bouncy Toys - Kids Carnival Games and Activities - Booths - Displays and More - great for kids of all ages

11:00am - Zumba - on the stage and down front - you can participate

11:00am - 3:00pm - Classic Car Show at the United Curch - one of the best in the region

      BBQ and Strawberry Shortcake at the Church as well - WARNING get there early they always sell out

1:00pm - the People Parade - will start at the United Church - move along Main St. to Mill Village Road to the Elementary School back down to Main Street then turn right out to the edge of the Village again on Main Street

      Honourary Parade Marshalls - Neil & Christine Barr (wonderful community volunteers)

      Miss Teen Nova Scotia - Ocean MacDonald will be in the parade

2:00pm in the Park - Opening Ceremonies - singing of O'Canada - Canada Day Cake - greetings from officials

2:30pm - out at the Wild Life Park - the Great Butterfly Release

2:30pm - Kids Jell-O Eating Contest - Followed by the Adult Pizza Eating Contest

3:00pm - Rubber Duck Race on the Shubenacadie River - You can purchase a duck at the Tin Shop or in the Park Friday up until about 2:00pm ($5 for one - 5 for $20)

7:00pm - 10:00pm - Live and in Concert - Ruckus on the Event Stage in the Park (Free admission)

10:00pm - Wait for it - FIREWORKS Display - Our local Volunteer Firefighters put on one of the best fireworks displays in the region

Canoe to the Sea - Maitland to Shubenacadie

Canoe to the Sea is comiong up this weekend. Sunday June 19 travelling from Maitland NS to Shubenacadie.

  • Canoe to the Sea - Registration at River Runners in Maitland at 9:00am
  • Launch from Maitland - 11:00am
  • Paddle with the incoming tide to Subhenacadie - 30+ km
  • Arrive at the dock in Shubie River Park

In years past 80 - 140 canoes and kayaks have participated in this exciting event.  It is a family affiar as well - there are competitive paddlers as well as pleasure just for fun paddlers.

You wan watch the Launch in Maitland - then visit the viewing point at South Miatland - then be in Shubenacadie to see them arrive at tyhe dock in River Park.

Hay Days / Canada Day ARE COMING

The Hay Days / Canada Day committee have been working hard, meeting for months now preparing a GREAT day of activity and fun July 1st.  We encourage everyone to plan on bringing your whole family.  Invite friends and relatives from away to join you as well

There will be a lot of great opportunities for fun all day. 

  • Canada Day - People Parade - get together as a group - company - school - church - club and put together a fun float foer the Canada Day Parade - meet on Hwy # 2 just up above the United Church - be there by 12:30n
  • Rubber Duck Race - you can purchase Ducks for the BIG RACE at the Tin Shop Museum and Shubie Pizza - ducks are $5 or 5 for $20 - all proceeds going to the Canada Day Activities
  • Volunteers are still needed - if you would be willing to help for a few hours - give us a call - 902-758-4444 - say I want to HELP
  • Donations - are still welcomed - Drop them into the Tin Shop Museum - call 902-758-4444 and we will pick them up

The Shubie Fire Department is telling us the Fireworks will be the BEST EVER for our Village.  People from all around the region come to see them.

We have that GREAT band called Rukus coming again from 7:00pm - 10:00pm Friday night
