Have you seen the great job that has been done on our Village Welcome Signs. The Shubenacadie Community Development Association took the lead on this project and have done a GREAT job. The addition of honouring our own Olympian TRACY CAMERON is a great addition as well. With Tracy competing in the London 2012 Olympic Games the timing couldn’t be better. Again we thank the SCDA for this effort.

They also coordinate the Flower Baskets along Main Street, the MacInnis Trail and MacCools Park. We appreciate very much all of their efforts.

How exciting is this for our Village - our own Tracy Cameron had a couple of injuries lately with broken ribs and there was some question whether she would be able to compete in the London 2012 Olympics. It all came down to one heat today April 24, in BC where she had to qualify - one race after training so hard for 4 years - and she did it…. way to go TRACY!!

She will be competing in the 2 person boat and we are looking for another metal.

Tracy’s Grandma still lives in the area and we congratulate her on such a fine upstanding young lady of a granddaughter. Tracey is not only a great athelete but also a wonderful person - we could not ask for a better representative of our Village.

This summer we will all be screaming Go Tracy Go…

The Shubie River Park by the Community Hall is working towards some additional upgrades again in 2012. There have been a number of groups assisting and helping with different projects over the last few years. The wading pool was brought back to life - the playgound equipment has been going through some upgrades and still has more to go. We will be organizing a big spring cleanup again this spring so stay tuned.

Currently there is a plan being worked on to correct the drainage problems that exist on the property - everything form a wet basement in the Community Hall to wet as and sink holes beyond the ball diamonds. We have the new floating dock down there at at times it was almost impossible to get to it because of the mud. With the help of Scotian Plastics and Halifax C&D and their owner Dan Chassie they are taking on helping put proper drainage in there to allow run off to escape the property. Thourhg his company Scotia Metals he has also donated new metal roofing and metal siding for the Ball Field building and that will be geting a dressing up in the spring.

There are also plans underway to create a Picnic Pavilion on the River Shore by the new docking area. This will allow families the opportunity to go down and enjoy time by the river - canoe and kayak paddlers a place to stqart and finish from. This June Shubie will be hosting a big Canoe to the Sea event that will start out our Shubie River Park and paddle all the way to Maitland and the Bay of Fundy.

Stay tune for all these activities and get yourself ready to bring the family and come and help with these projects. Many volunteers makes a big job easier.
